Appendix II. Naripokkho

Objective

Naripokkho is a women's activist organization working for the advancement of women's rights and entitlements and building resistance against violence, discrimination and injustice. Naripokkho is a membership based organization, meeting every Tuesday to discuss issues of concern. These discussions form the basis for Naripokkho's programmes and activities which include research, campaigns, protest work, discussions, lobbying and advocacy, cultural events etc. Occasionally, this leads to the adoption of a specific project which is carried out with grant funding and outside contributions. However, most of Naripokkho's activities are voluntary and are supported by Naripokkho's membership. Naripokkho's work is focused in four main areas: violence against women and human rights; reproductive rights and women's health; gender issues in environment and development; representation of women in media and cultural politics.
